Cinematography Techniques - An analysis of The Shining

  Throughout the majority of the clip, director Stanley Kubrick used a ground level angle shot to capture the character Danny on his bike, riding the hallways of the hotel. I think the director chose to use a ground level shot to show the audience Danny's perspective. The effect this then has on the audience is that it makes us feel more involved, getting to see things from a characters view point.  Furthermore, in this screen cap and for a lot of the scene, it's in deep focus - meaning everything in the shot is in focus so we as the audience can pick up every small detail. I think, in this case, the effect it has on the audience is that again it makes us feel more involved, letting us explore the scene and atmosphere in detail at the same time the character involved does. Film - The Perks of Being A Wallflower The lighting within this scene makes Sam's character look more of a  silhouette, since we aren't able to see her clearly. The scene included the characters listening to David Bowie's Heroes - hence why Sam is letting the wind hit her, as the song makes her feel free. I think by the lighting being low key and us only being able to see a silhouette, lets the audience identify with the character and how she feels in the moment. The lighting is natural, produced by the streetlights, car lights and the lights upon the bridge to reflect the time of day. Test Footage

https://youtu.be/03G839ljIN0   In this short clip I wanted to present the records I would be mentioning in the voiceover stacking upon each other while in the same shot. While this doesn’t necessarily sound difficult, using my phone to film made it that way. I tried leaning it against things, etc. but I felt nothing worked.  I also wrote a short piece on Record Stores in particular discussing local stores and where I personally buy my own records from to help people out. Upon filming, we were put back into a lockdown so I had to leave this part out - luckily my script reached the five minute mark but I would’ve liked to include this.  As well as this, before editing we were given a list of different softwares that would work as an equivalent to Premiere Pro. After testing some of these out on my laptop, I ended up using iMovie since some of them wouldn’t download and others I didn’t feel very comfortable using.
