Chosen Idea
The idea I have chosen to make a documentary on is how vinyl has been affected by the digital age. The points I will include from my mind map are the history of the topic, different opinions on vinyl, statistics and just one interview.
I have decided to create a documentary on this topic since I believe it fits the brief well and would appeal to my target audience and perhaps show them a different viewpoint on the matter. The brief asked me to explore and develop ideas for media products or visual art, and design work relating to the theme of 'Culture in the Digital Age'. I think my idea fits well as I will explore how the shift in technology made vinyl sales drop due to CD's, streaming platforms, etc. My target audience for this project are both men and women from the ages 13 up to 19. I think my idea would appeal to this age range in different ways - perhaps to the younger end as more as an informational documentary because it might be something they've never looked into and it might interest them. Whereas for the older audience, it may appeal to them more as it might be something they do themselves, or may be something they've never had an interest in until now.
I decided not to include things like the best selling albums of different decades as I don't think it related to what i've planned as much as the others. If I were to talk on a specific decade it would relate and would be useful to include, but since I'm talking about vinyl sales in general over the years, I don't want to focus on specific decades. I have also decided I won't include the positives and negatives of streaming platforms since I think it would better fit into a documentary around music in general, not vinyl sales. As well as this, I think it could come across as more of an opinionated topic so it may be bias.
